Midcentury Console table by John Herbert for Younger
Midcentury Console table by John Herbert for Younger
A beautifully refined mid-century console table from the sought-after “Volnay” range, designed in the 1950s by John Herbert for A. Younger Ltd — one of Britain’s most respected modernist furniture makers.
This elegant piece captures everything that made Younger furniture exceptional: clean Scandinavian-influenced lines, impeccable craftsmanship, and the use of high-quality timbers. The slender rounded legs, softly radiused corners, and balanced proportions are all characteristic of Herbert’s celebrated Volnay designs.
Constructed in solid afromosia/teak, the console features two smoothly running drawers with original turned wooden knobs. A discreet Younger maker’s stamp remains on the rear of one drawer — an excellent mark of authenticity.
Perfect as a hallway console, writing desk, or minimalist dressing table, its understated silhouette blends seamlessly into modern, contemporary, or vintage-leaning interiors.
Presented in very good vintage condition with a beautifully even finish. Light age-related marks and small signs of use to the legs and top, but nothing that detracts from the piece — clean, solid, and fully ready for the home.
