A rare and highly collectible Frank Lloyd Wright ‘Johnson Wax Office Chair’, produced by Cassina in 1986 as part of their prestigious I Maestri programme and authorised by the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation. This sculptural chair — numbered 01116 of a strictly limited edition run — is an iconic reissue of the seating Wright originally created in 1936 for the S.C. Johnson Administration Building in Racine, Wisconsin, one of the architect’s most celebrated works.

This edition faithfully recreates Wright’s visionary design: the bold circular seat and backrest, lacquered in the architect’s signature Cherokee Red, are supported by an elegant ladder-frame structure, culminating in the distinctive castors that echo the mobility required in the original corporate environment. The warm hardwood armrests contrast beautifully with the industrial steel frame, emphasising Wright’s lifelong pursuit of harmony between natural materials and engineered form.

Cassina’s craftsmanship is exceptional, and this example carries full provenance, including the Cassina factory stamp, Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation hallmark, and engraved production number. In very good vintage condition overall. Lacquer and frame show light, age-appropriate surface marks and small scuffs, mainly to edges and castors, consistent with careful use.
