Large Midcentury sideboard by Val Rossi for Beithcraft

£975.00

A superb vintage teak sideboard attributed to Val Rossi for Beithcraft of Scotland, dating from the mid-1960s. Beautifully proportioned and exceptionally well made, the design combines clean architectural lines with subtle sculptural detailing, including long recessed drawer pulls, distinctive square door handles and an elegant stretcher base with gently tapered legs.

Founded in Ayrshire, Scotland, Beithcraft became one of Britain’s most respected furniture makers during the 1950s and 1960s, producing finely crafted modern furniture that rivalled the best Scandinavian designs of the period. Much of the company’s most sought-after work is associated with designer Val Rossi, whose pieces are admired for their refined proportions, thoughtful functionality and understated elegance.

The sideboard offers generous and highly practical storage, with three drawers to the left, a central double-door cupboard with internal shelving, and a larger drop down cupboard section to the right. Its versatile layout makes it ideal for use in a dining room, living space or as a media cabinet.

Crafted in richly figured teak, the cabinet displays a warm honey tone and beautifully consistent grain throughout. The restrained design and excellent craftsmanship are characteristic of the best British mid-century furniture, balancing utility with timeless simplicity.

The sideboard is presented in very good vintage condition, with only minor signs of age and use, including a small, unobtrusive knock to the base of one leg.

A particularly elegant and well-resolved example of British mid-century design, attributed to one of Scotland’s most accomplished furniture designers.
